Association of the infusion of Heteropterys aphrodisiaca and endurance training brings spermatogenetic advantages Biol. Res.
Gomes,Marcos L M; Monteiro,Juliana C; Freitas,Karine M; Sbervelheri,Mariana M; Dolder,Heidi.
The species Heteropterys aphrodisiaca is commonly used as a stimulant by popular medicine in the Cerrado, a savanna-like biome, Brazil. Recent studies have proved its protective effects on testes of animals submitted to treatment using Cyclosporine A, as well as its stimulus effect in increasing testosterone secretion. Therefore, the present study was designed to analyze whether the association of the plant infusion and endurance exercise could potentiate the stimulating effect. The animals were separated into 4 groups: two control (sedentary and trained) receiving water and two treated (sedentary and trained) receiving the plant infusion daily (104mg/day). The proportion of the seminiferous tubule compartment and interstitium was analyzed. Within the...

Morphological changes of gonad and gene expression patterns during desexualization in Dugesia japonica (Platyhelminthes: Dugesiidae) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Dong,Zimei; Shi,Changying; Chu,Gengbo; Dong,Yanping; Chen,Guangwen; Liu,Dezeng.
ABSTRACT Planarians, the representatives of an ancient bilaterian group with complex reproductive system and high regenerative capabilities, are model system suitable for studying the basic molecular requirements for the development of the reproductive system. To further explore the morphological changes of the gonads during desexualization and the molecular events of the genes controlling the reproductive system development in planarians, we have investigated the histological changes of ovary and testis by paraffin section and the expression patterns of reproductive-related genes by the quantitative real-time PCR in Dugesia japonica Ichikawa & Kawakatsu, 1964, upon starvation. The four genes, Djprps, DjvlgA, DjvlgB and Djnos, have been selected. The...

Origine et développement des cellules germinales chez l'huître creuse Crassostrea gigas : Intérêt pour le contrôle de la reproduction en écloserie. ArchiMer
Fabioux, Caroline.
A comprehensive knowledge of Crassostrea gigas oyster reproduction processes is essential to optimize controlled reproduction in hatchery. This study aimed to determine the origin and the mechanisms of annual renewal of germ cells, still unknown in oysters, and the influence of temperature and photoperiod parameters on the regulation of the reproductive cycle. We characterized an orthologue of the vasa gene, the Oyvlg (Oyster vasa-like gene), the first germ cell specific marker isolated in molluscs. This marker was used to study C. gigas germline development. Oyster germ cells appeared specified during early development from mesentoblast 4d, as primordial germ cells (PGCs) determined by maternal cytoplasmic determinants, including Oyvlg mRNA. In adult...

The ability of mouse nuclear transfer embryonic stem cells to differentiate into primordial germ cells Genet. Mol. Biol.
Mansouri,Vahid; Salehi,Mohammad; Nourozian,Mohsen; Fadaei,Fatemeh; Farahani,Reza Mastery; Piryaei,Abbas; Delbari,Ali.
Nuclear transfer embryonic stem cells (ntESCs) show stem cell characteristics such as pluripotency but cause no immunological disorders. Although ntESCs are able to differentiate into somatic cells, the ability of ntESCs to differentiate into primordial germ cells (PGCs) has not been examined. In this work, we examined the capacity of mouse ntESCs to differentiate into PGCs in vitro. ntESCs aggregated to form embryoid bodies (EB) in EB culture medium supplemented with bone morphogenetic protein 4(BMP4) as the differentiation factor. The expression level of specific PGC genes was compared at days 4 and 8 using real time PCR. Flow cytometry and immunocytochemical staining were used to detect Mvh as a specific PGC marker. ntESCs expressed particular genes...

The ovary of Lagostomus maximus (Mammalia, Rodentia): an analysis by confocal microscopy Biocell
Espinosa,María B.; Fraunhoffer,Nicolás A.; Leopardo,Noelia P.; Vitullo,Alfredo D.; Willis,Miguel A..
Lagostomus maximus is a notable mammalian model for reproductive studies. Females have an extremely high ovulation rate, which is due to down-regulation of the follicular apoptosis pathway, which ensures a large pool of developing follicles. This large pool is supported by the convoluted anatomy of the mature ovary, whose germinal tissue is found in irregularly curved ridges throughout the cortex. Medullary tissue is restricted to a minimum. Lyso Tracker Red reconstruction under confocal laser scanning microscopy was used to recognize and measure all follicular stages from primordial to antral. Unlike most mammals in which early primordial follicles are just found in fetal life, the adult ovary shows regions packed with early primordial follicles. Follicle...
